Copyright & Permissions for Digital Collections
- A central mission of the IBE is to make its collections freely available to the world. In support of this mission, the IBE provides access to its digital collections for purposes that include highlighting the collections, providing information about its materials, and encouraging broader discovery.
- These materials are made available solely for personal, noncommercial teaching and research use.
- Users must keep intact, and not modify or remove any copyright or other proprietary notices contained on the original screens on any copy you make. You are not permitted to sell, lease, license, rent, transfer, disassemble, modify, post, or publish any aspect of the materials, or authorize others to use these materials for commercial purposes. Any use of these materials, or any works derived from them, that are primarily directed toward commercial advantage or private monetary compensation is prohibited. Before any material from the IBE collections may be published, the permission of the IBE or other owners of specific materials must be obtained in writing. It is the responsibility of the researcher to obtain such permission.
- Many of the materials included in the digital collections are not copyright protected, and they are made available without restrictions. The digital collections may also include materials that are protected by copyright, subject to license or other rights, such as rights of privacy or the use of names and likenesses. You may have to seek permission from the rights holder to reproduce and otherwise use the materials. Alternatively, you may be able to use digital collections and the materials contained in them as permitted by law, such as under fair use and other copyright exceptions. The IBE makes no representation about the copyright or other legal status of the materials. It is your responsibility to investigate and, if needed, clear rights to use these materials.
- The materials are displayed “as is” and without warranties of any kind, either expressed or implied, including any warranties of title, non-infringement of copyright or other rights. Users of materials in the Digital Collections must respect copyright and other legal rights held by other parties that may affect their subsequent use. Where materials are protected by copyright law, the IBE provides access to them in its digital collections for educational, scholarly, and research purposes.
